Like to play cards or board games? Enjoy speaking German, meeting people, and making friends? Let I Speak Academy entertain you and other family members with a “Spielabend” for all ages, all proficiency levels.

Once a month, Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m., beginning August 23, 2023. Phyllis Farrar will be your host. If you can’t attend in two weeks, then we hope to see next month, September 27.

To RSVP, simply check the box for “German arts and crafts and/or family game night (Spielabend)” on this enrollment form.

Wir freuen uns auf ein schönes Beisammensein. Bis bald!

Short-term Goals

  • Learners are interested in learning this language and are willing to share what they know about this language with their friends and family.

  • A “can-do” check list of each session will be provided to the learners for self-assessment of their language learning. Each “can-do” check list is made based on NCSSFL-ACTFL Can-Do Statements that address three modes: interpretive communication, interpersonal communication, and presentational communication. (https://www.actfl.org/educator-resources/ncssfl-actfl-can-do-statements ).

  • Learners are able to develop language learning  via the learning of the language.

  • Learners make useful connections between the language and their knowledge and interests in other fields, such as Mathematics, Science, Geography, Art, Music, etc.

  • Develop friendships with others who share a common interest in a specific language and culture.

Long-term
Goals

  • Learners are prompted to make long-term learning commitments to this language.

  • Learners gain successful language learning skills.

  • Learners meet certain proficiency benchmarks within a given period of learning as described in the American Council of Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) Proficiency Guidelines. (https://www.actfl.org/educator-resources/actfl-proficiency-guidelines ).

  • Learners are encouraged to pursue the Seal of Biliteracy: a certificate awarded to students who have attained specific minimal functional levels of proficiency in two or more languages. The Global Seal of Biliteracy  (https://theglobalseal.com/).
